Yeah....Can any of the mods take this review down?

It really feels like it was uploaded as bait.

Mods don't have editorial authority beyond the forums, so I assume you actually meant to address the editorial staff.

If you think the review is totally wrong, explain why. As Cryten pointed out a few posts back, most of the complaining in this thread has just been disparaging the review without getting into any details. The reviewer did do that, so if you want your complaints to be regarded as credible, you'll need to be more specific.

So a lot of you have demonstrated that Ashura has lasting appeal and some popularity. I wonder about the other criticisms about the anime adaptation. Namely that there was little characterisation for opponents and their martial arts, nor world building attached to their style of martial arts (IE martial arts reflecting character traits). Is this a valid criticism of the anime (not the manga)? If not what would you say in responce to the criticism?

Also would you disagree with the assesment that it goes for edgy writing? How do you find the feel of the anime? Do you find the characters likeable?

The one thing everyone seems to agree on is that the anime visuals are a mess, or the very least conflicting.

I would note that the reviewer agreed that the series can be mindless fun.

From my memory of the show, they do expand on the characters and their motivations, they do that well into the second season and part 2 of the second season too. It's a battle royal they focus more on the fights, you not getting Baki levels of pseudo-science on how Chinese Kenpo can make someone live 200 years or how drinking a bucket of glucose after being poisoned and almost starving to death will bring you back to life.

CGI has always been a hot topic in anime most of the fandom is divided into ones that like/accepet it and ones who dislike it, even if it's on the same level as Girls Band Cry, Dorohedoro, Beastars or Trigun.

What.
The reviewer thought this show was ass and he's allowed to say so? Like anyone is?
I thought this show was bad too and I totally get everything the review is saying lmao. It's cool to see all the fans of the show happened to find this review, and I think if you like the show feel free to disagree with the review and post your own thoughts why, but that doesn't mean you can just say "you're not allowed to say mean things!!" Especially when half the posts here literally also sort of agree with the review when they say stuff like "Awww come on it wasn't that bad, it was just dumb fun!"

Yeah man, Michael Bay movies are also dumb fun, but I ain't arguing with anyone hates them.

I’m no fan of this franchise, but it’s weird how the review acts like this isn’t a popular and well liked series in Japan. The manga has been running for over a decade!

Who cares if it's popular if what the reviewer watched on Netflix they thought was bad. Popular absolutely does not mean you're going to like something.
I get being sad something you liked is getting sh*t on but you just gotta let it go and post why you like it instead, or just move on. It was whack when the first Delicious in Dungeon preview reviews went up on this site, and they were written by someone who may as well have just written "this show isn't for me" and ended the review there, instead of crapping on it for 500 words, but no one asked for his goddamn review to be taken down lol. Some people ain't gonna vibe with things and they're allowed to review them too. That's how discussions happen.

Quote:

Before the start of most fights in the series, the net worth of the companies participating in the match is blared over a loudspeaker along with the fighter's stats and record. The implication is that these companies' monetary value is as important as physical factors that will help a fighter win the match. Sure, a more charitable reading of Kengan Ashura might paint this over-the-top splendor and focus on wealth as satire, but the series' fixation on money was never thought out enough to feel like a critique to me. The show just attached a dollar sign to fighters as a quick way to show how strong they might be, à la power levels in Dragon Ball Z.

I'm under the impression that the author was assigned to binge watch and rush a review out in time for the Baki crossover cause on top of not liking the show (which is fine), the above part indicates to me that they didn't get it either which is why the review is a mean-spirited misfire.

There is something to be said for how Kengan Ashura is all style, no substance, doesn't seem to be in on its own joke, and also does not waste viewers' time.

I don't think I've ever read a review before that's on such a fundamentally different wavelength than my own. It's also baffling how it treats minor setting details as fundamental themes. And there's the question of why the review only covers half of the first season when the entire season is available.

As for the details, I disagree with just about all of them. The CGI, while a far cry from the manga's stellar art, is fine. The characters are fun and by and large likable. The fights are cool and the interplay between different styles is engaging.

I've seen the anime some years ago so I've no idea what to think of the review. The CGI was something that divided me because of I read the first manga chapters and there the artwork was quite awesome. Turning it into cheap CGI felt it ruined potential. The pacing of fights is also strange kinda like Onepunch Man whose first volume was adapted into a single episode due to small narrative.

Also, I've never got to understand well the two protagonists since they barely interact in the first episodes and are supposed to be a duo.

Is this review a late April Fool's joke? If you can stand Beastars' CG then this show will grow on you. The soundtrack is a great collection of various rock sub-genres and everyone in the show is over the top which given the setting, is quite fitting.
