Starting today! Chaparral Road is closed at the Indian Bend Wash, just east of Hayden Road, through approximately Sept. 1. This project will create a new pedestrian underpass along the Indian Bend multiuse path on the east side of Hayden Road under Chaparral Road. Adding this underpass will reduce bike and pedestrian traffic across Chaparral Road, which will increase safety and allow more green light time for vehicles.
Work takes place 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Occasional night and weekend work will be necessary to install a waterline being built in conjunction with this project. During the Chaparral closure, use McDonald Drive or Indian School Road as alternate routes to and from Loop 101 (Pima Freeway).
In addition, the Indian Bend Wash multiuse path on the east side of Hayden Road also is closed. Access the path on the west side of Hayden Road between Camelback and Jackrabbit roads. Watch this short video and learn more about the project here.
Monsoon Awareness Week takes place June 9-15; monsoon season runs June 15-Sept. 30. Monsoons often bring thunderstorms with heavy rain, flash flooding and lightning which can cause wildfires. Prepare now so you know what actions may be needed when a major storm rolls in. Look for Ready, Set, Go messages on social networks and in the news media. Be READY: always be prepared for potential emergencies; get SET by maintaining awareness of events that may force evacuation; and GO, evacuate immediately as instructed by emergency authorities.

Juneteenth commemorates the abolition of slavery – more specifically the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, who did not receive the news until two years after abolition. It is believed to be the oldest African American holiday, with annual celebrations in different parts of the country dating back to 1866.
Reminder: While the city’s event is June 15, Juneteenth itself occurs every June 19, and is a federal and city holiday. Most city offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday, June 19. Trash and recycling collection is not affected. Place your containers in their usual spot by 5 a.m. the morning of collection or the night before.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Investing in Our Scottsdale: Via de Ventura will be repaved June 4-19 between Hayden Road and Eastwood Lane. Work will take place 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday – Friday. One travel lane in each direction will remain open and business access will be maintained. The finished road will be restriped in the existing configuration with two travel lanes east- and westbound with bike lanes, and existing left- and right-turn bays will remain in place.
City provides dead animal pick up on streets and curbs. However, property owners are responsible for removing dead animals on private property. Dead animals should be bagged and tied prior to being deposited into a trash container. Request a dead animal pickup on public property.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has issued a high ozone pollution advisory through tomorrow, Tuesday, June 4. Those with respiratory sensitivities are advised to take precautions during outdoor activities. Please help reduce ozone by doing one or more of the following:

ADOT advises drivers to plan for the following restrictions as part of the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) Improvements.

The northbound Loop 101 on ramp at Shea Boulevard continues to be closed through June 14.

The northbound Loop 101 off ramp at Cactus Road continues to be closed through June 28.

The northbound Loop 101 off ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed for 60 days as of May 29.
This is part of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s two-year project to add lanes and improve interchanges on Loop 101 between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/ Pima Road. “Stay in the Loop” by subscribing to project updates on ADOT’s website.
